Symbolic Match

Solo show at Galerie Seippel. Cologne, Germany.
June - August 2019

At “Symbolic Match” I present a series of works that mirrors my way of operating. It is based on concerns and reflections surrounding creation as a heterogeneous, versatile and mutable language that emerges from possibilities, materials, and media. Most of my resources come from nature: cork sheets, ceramics and different kinds of metals that combine with each other. They are the operative translation of an idea: to return to the roots searching for my Mestizo and Latin American identity – perhaps one or the result of a melting pot of cultures from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

The total image is an information crossing: a timeless bridge uniting fragments and paths of culture. I manipulate them with sacred geometry, the wisdom of ancient crafts and new technologies. In a simultaneous process of meditation and action, I create textiles and ornaments that are products of a sort of manual mantra. A reiteration takes place in perception and consciousness in each gesture. They are objects interwoven in visual code. They allude to different traditions of the past together with forms of experiencing nowness. “Symbolic Match” is the game of symbols.
