Palazzo Monti

Palazzo Monti residency
Brescia, Italy. March, 2018

In the month of March me and my partner received an invitation from Edoardo Monti to do a residency in an old little palace in Brescia. We shared the place with two other artists.

I had come from a residency in Lisbon where, seduced by the malleability of cork, I began to paint on thin sheets of this material and embarked on a new series of paints.

The aim was to juxtapose the organic nature of cork with the rigidity of geometric forms drawn from various cultures; from Portuguese tiles, Islamic symbols found in them, to Pre-Columbian imagery from South America. All of this in permanent contrast with the eclectic style of the 17th-century Italian building laden with ornaments and frescoes.
